Determination January 8, 2008

I read this on foxnews.com.  Hilarious!

A 10-year-old boy thought he had discovered a novel way of getting off school — glueing his hand to the bed.

Diego Palacios had so much fun over the Christmas holiday he was in no rush to get back to lessons.

He had to be freed by emergency services in Monterrey, northern Mexico, after his master plan went wrong.

His mother, Sandra, spent nearly two hours trying to free his right hand with water, oil and nail polish remover, but to no avail.

“I didn’t want to go to school because vacation was so much fun,” the youngster explained.

He told how he sneaked into the kitchen in the early hours and then covered his hand with industrial-strength adhesive.

His mother woke up to find him watching TV with his hand stuck to the bed.

“I don’t know why he did it,” she said. “He’s a good boy but mischievous — like all kids.”

His hand was freed by paramedics — just in time for school.

ILLEGAL Immigration January 7, 2008

A lady recently wrote an editorial:

Recently large demonstrations have taken place
across the country protesting the fact that Congress
is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that
the US might protect its own
borders, might make it harder
to sneak into this country and,
once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand
the thinking behind these protests.
Let’s say I break into your house.
Let’s say that when you discover
me in your house, you insist that I leave.

But I say, “I’ve made all
the beds and washed the
dishes and did the laundry
and swept the floors. I’ve
done all the things you don’t
like to do. I’m hard-working
and honest
(except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters:

You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to add me to your family’s insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me and to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because
he is also hard-working and honest, except for that
breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out,
I will call my friends who will picket your
house carrying signs that proclaim my
RIGHT to be there.

It’s only fair, after all, because you have
a nicer house than I do, and I’m just
trying to better myself. I’m a hard-working
and honest, person, except for well,
you know, I did break into your house
And what a deal it is for me!!!

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 December 24, 2007

Luke 2
1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Wow. That’s all I can say. Wow. December 8, 2007

Flying a wingsuit is kind of just how you would imagine flying, you know if you’re ever dreamt about flying you’ve just kind of probably dreamed just soaring around and you just kind of go wherever you look.

Wingsuit flying: my future hobby.   I hope….

NBC has reversed their initial decision.

“We have reviewed and changed our ad standards guidelines and made the decision that our policy will apply to content only and not to a referenced Web site. Based on these amended standards the Freedom’s Watch ad will begin to run as early as Sunday.”

Good job NBC!

What? Santa’s reindeer are women? December 5, 2007

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring.

Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa’s reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.

We should’ve known… ONLY women would be able to drag a fat-man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

Women: 1 Men: 0

This battle will continue…

Putin’s United Russsa wins December 2, 2007

With 80% of polls reporting, United Russia has 63% of the vote. Three other parties met the minimum of 7% and will have seats in the new parliament. Reports put the Communist Party at 11.5%, the Liberal Democratic Party with 8.8%, and A Just Russia at 8.4%.

So what does this mean? It’s not quite the overwhelming win that Putin would have liked, but it won’t prevent him from using it as a mandate from the people that he should continue to lead in the government. He has hinted at his desire to become Prime Minister and who really knows what will happen next year when it comes time for him to step down. My thoughts: Putin will find/make a way to stay President. Or, after becoming Prime Minister next year he will find/make a way to get back in the presidency. Although, as Prime Minister he will still be very influential and powerful in the government, and that may be enough for him.

Opposition leaders protested the elections as unfair and vowed to conduct their own count. One independent monitoring group Golos (Voice) reported numerous violations such as:

  • Entering those voting for United Russia into a prize lottery, reported in St Petersburg
  • Transporting voters by bus between polling stations, to vote multiple times, in Moscow and St Petersburg
  • Opposition party observers being detained for “looking suspicious”, in Samara
  • Voters being given ballots already filled out for United Russia, in Pestovo
  • Get this:

United Russia’s leader, Boris Gryzlov, acknowledged there had been violations but dismissed them as insignificant.

“They in no way put in doubt the final result. The fact that these violations have been registered shows that we have a transparent ballot.”

Check out some of the pictures from the elections. Or an article.

God help Russia and Venezuela November 30, 2007

December 2nd will be a day of voting in Russia and Venezuela. Interestingly, these elections have a similar theme: a President attempting to keep or stay in power.

    russian-flag.gif venezuela-flag.gif

In Venezuela, Hugo Chavez is proposing to eliminate the number of terms a president may serve. He’s also proposing some other pretty intense ideas.

Other changes up for approval include giving the president control over the central bank, and the creation of new provinces governed by centrally appointed officials.

Mr Chavez is also proposing to bypass legal controls on the executive during a state of emergency, bring in a maximum six-hour working day and cut the voting age from 18 to 16.

Over 150,000 students protested the upcoming vote in hopes to postpone it so that voters can research the issues more thoroughly.
